I have had a collection of 6 tiny cacti just standing on my dresser and I wanted to spruce them up a bit and put them in a nice, small garden. So, I gathered some left over yarn I had lying around to make the pot, the soil, and some additional cacti, and have made myself a super cute cacti garden! I am so proud of it! Making the Cacti:
1. I have made 8 different types of cacti. Some of them I have already posted about, and you can find them in the posts bellow:
Saguaro cactus, Barrel cactus, Succulent cactus, Glory of Texas cactus, Hedgehog cactus, and the Prickly Pear cactus.
The patterns to the two new cacti I have made are as follows:

crochet flower pot
I have wanted to make this adorable flower pot for some time, but never got around to it. Finally last week, I had some free time to complete this long awaited project. It was a fast project, although I could have made more flowers to put onto the soil of the flower pot, but this works as well.
I have used the pattern from www.sewrella.com/crochet-flower-pot/ as a basis of my project, but have changed it to fit my needs and likes. Give it a try, it is so very pretty. I did make 2 flower pots, one brown, one light blue.
Materials:
4.00 mm crochet hook
Small plastic flower pot (seed nursery planter)
Brown, pink, green, light blue, yellow, purple, magenta yarn
Scissors, needle
Glue gun (optional)
Steps and Procedure:
1. Making a Flower Pot:
With light blue yarn, make a magic ring, SC 6
R1: INCREASE in each stitch around (12)
R2: INC, SC (repeat around) (18)
R3: INC, SC 2, (repeat around) (24)
R4: INC, SC 3, (repeat around) (30)

R10: INC, SC 8, (repeat around) (60)
R11: INC, SC 9, (repeat around 4 times), 20 SC (64)
R12,13: 64 SC around
- sl st the last row of the Soil to the last row of the Pot

Crochet an Orchid
Orchids have always been one of my favorite types of flowers. They are so very delicate and beautiful, almost out of this world. And, of course, they never seem to want to grow in my house. Is it the watering, the temperature, the sunlight (or lack there of), I never will find out. Anyways, I have decided to make myself a crochet orchid. That way it will live in my home for ever and ever:))))
I have found this AWESOME (it is the understatement) tutorial by this Italian lady (it is in English) - Mary J Handmade that is so easy to follow. I will post the link to the complete written pattern and for her Youtube channel. I would suggest watching the video and crocheting along, it is so easy and wonderfully explained.
Materials:
white, (pink) yellow, orange, green yarn
wire (for the flower stem and around the petals)
2.00 mm crochet hook
decorative stones, vase
stitch marker (optional but helpful)
Steps and Procedure:
- If you would like to follow the written pattern, this great lady has it on her blog:
leartidiminerva.blogspot.com/2015/04/orchidea-alluncinetto-how-to-crochet.html
Video part 1: www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MnNVZyDrW8
Video part 2: www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYR1FFPHJaQ
Notes:
- I have used the worsted weight yarn because it is the only yarn I had in the house, so the orchids flowers turned a big larger that I thought, but they are still as beautiful and amazing, I think.
- for the "white" orchid I have made - 3 orchids, 2 buds and 3 leaves using the patterns above
- for the "pink" orchid I have made - 2 orchids, 2 buds and 2 leaves using the patterns above
(When I made the "pink" orchid I changed the pattern for the leaves a bit since the leaves were way too long for my liking. So here is my version of the leaves pattern....
Leaves pattern #2
- with green yarn and 2.00 mm crochet hook
- ch 31
1. Round 1: crochet down the chain starting with the 2nd chain from the hook: 2 SC, 3 HDC, 5 DC, 10 TRC, 7 DC, 2 HDC, 3 HDC (in last st)
2. crocheting on the other side of the chain: 2 HDC, 7 DC, 10 TRC, 5 DC, 3 HDC, 2 SC, 3 SC in last stitch)
3. Round 2: 2 SC, 4 HDC, (4 DC, 2 DC in next st) - repeat 3 times, 3 HDC, 6 SC, 3 SC in last st
4. continue on the other side: 6 SC, 3 HDC, (4 DC, 2 DC in next st) - repeat 3 times, 4 HDC, 2 SC
- continue with SC around the entire leave incorporating the wire
- To finish off the project I used the green yarn and SC around all the wires to make the branches for the orchids, the buds, and the leaves
- I have also wrapped the green yarn tightly (or S)C around the thick wire for the stem making sure it is all sturdy and able to stand on its own
- I sew the branches (of the orchids, buds, leaves) to the stem at chosen spots on the stem
- I filled the vase with the decorative stones or pebbles and have put the stem in it
And here are my beautiful orchids. Thank you Mary J Handmade for the tutorial!:)

I have always loved house plants and have always had many in my home. However cacti could never stay long in my house, because I did not really know how to water them properly. Now, that is all about to change since I have decided to make myself my own mini cacti garden that does not require water what so ever:) The Saguaro Cactus is the first of which I made. This is the website I used as a reference:
www.lacasadecrafts.com/2012/09/how-to-crochet-a-saguaro-cactus/
Materials:
3.5 mm crochet hook
worsted weight green yarn
scissors, needle
small plastic cup (6 cm in diameter)
decorative stones and gravel
Steps and Procedure:
- CACTUS BODY:
1. Make a Magic Ring and 4 SC inside the ring
2. Make an INC in each stitch around (8 SC)
3-20. Make 1 SC in each stitch (8 SC)
- continue with the 8 SC in each round until your cactus is 9 cm long
- Stuff the cactus with stuffing material, fasten off and close the opening on the bottom
- CACTUS ARM:
